The medicine of altered states

Through our deep listening, our devotion, and living in a space of openness and allowing, we enter into a state where we continually become more of our True Essence'.

Have you ever had a momentary expansion of awareness that altered your perception of reality permanently?

Such as...

·       Creating art, music, or writing – when inspiration feels like it’s flowing through you, not from you.
·       Overwhelming love or gratitude – tears and humility well up for no clear reason.
·       A sudden realisation – everything makes sense, like the universe reveals its secrets in an instant.
·       Moments in nature – when you feel inseparable from the trees, sky, and earth around you.
·       A wave of bliss – during simple activities, like walking or driving.
·       Prayer or worship – where connection to the Divine feels undeniable.
·       Deep meditation – time fades, and you exist in stillness.
·       Near-death experiences – encounters with light, peace, or divine presence.

That’s the essence of a mystical experience – a fleeting yet transformative moment that reveals the deeper nature of reality and leaves you changed.

Here’s what’s fascinating – these experiences aren’t random.
They are reflections of your evolving spiritual intelligence, and the science behind them is measurable.

When these moments happen, your brainwaves shift – typically into Theta or Gamma states, associated with heightened awareness and transformative insights.

"Mystical experiences are signposts that our spiritual intelligence  level is elevating.

What if we could cultivate these states intentionally instead of waiting for them to arise spontaneously?

It turns out that we can.

Tibetan monks who have cultivated decades of spiritual practice live in Gamma states during deep meditation – the highest measurable brainwave frequency.

But here’s the exciting part – you don’t have to be a monk to experience this.

·       Beta – Where most of the world lives. Overthinking, fear, and constant mental chatter.
·       Alpha – The calm, flowing state of awareness. The beginning of spiritual awakening.
·       Theta – The portal to mystical experiences, deep healing, and subconscious insight.
·       Delta – The connection to the void. Pure stillness, intuition, and collective consciousness.
·       Gamma – The state of enlightenment. A union of bliss and expanded awareness.

In shamanic practice, repetitive drumming, played at around 4-7 beats per minute, can produce a change in our brainwave patterns that allows us to access deep corners of our subconscious minds. This change is known as Brainwave Entrainment.

Many of our day-to-day lives are spent in the Beta brainwave pattern. This pattern is the fuel that our brains need to solve everyday problems.

Shamanic drumming, however, allows our minds to sink into Theta, Delta, and even Gamma brainwave patterns. These frequencies are associated with deeply intuitive insights and even super-consciousness in the case of Delta and Gamma brainwaves.

By accessing these alternate states of being, we can usher new perspectives, behaviours and eventually create new cultural paradigms.
