Trying To Feel Better Or Getting Better At Feeling?
"These days I don't consume more to feel enough, I remind myself that I am enough and my presence alone is my contribution to the collective"
Louise Harris
There's nothing like a holiday for the gift of time and space for contemplation. During a recent trip to Spain to visit my amazing Mum I was able to witness some old familial patterning around not feeling showing up. This observation showed me how far I've come on my journey to get better at feeling.
If we don't feel we don't heal. So if something painful begins to surface and we shame it internally and go about distracting ourselves we never heal the wound and the old pattern stays stuck.
Like many women in my generation and my Mum's there's a warrior energy that makes us strong. We are good at being busy and focusing our attention outside, helping others, trying to save the world but deeply rejecting our own pain. Pain that is stuck infiltrates all areas of our being from our work, our relationship, our abundance and creativity. To be truly empowered we must soften the heart and feel. This isn't easy. The distraction and busyness feels safer but this old way will not lead us to the change we all long for. The longing to have deep and meaningful connections, to feel love and aliveness, to access the abundance and channel our innate creative energy.
Like anything new, we need to practice. Once we've acknowledged that our emotional guidance system is our superpower we can train ourself to tune in to feelings and really feel them. One of the practices we cultivate in energy coaching is emotional contemplation. This is a measure of our ability to discern the difference between our emotional states and those of another as well as our ability to take full responsibility for our own emotional state and to communicate our emotions clearly and respectfully with a high degree of empathy towards another.
When enmeshed within a family this emotional intelligence is challenged but it's a great place to build the EI muscle. Feel what's yours and take responsibility for that.
If this level of self responsibility calls to you then energy coaching can help support you on your path
