The Feminine Process of Creation
“I am deeply committed to being a good ancestor. To becoming the kind of woman my descendants will be proud of. The kind who teaches the younger ones (who will actually teach us the most) about possibility & trust just by the way I navigate my life”.
This morning I was planning to write a newsletter on space holding and how our own healing journeys deepen our capacity to hold space for others. After co- facilitating the most magical shamanic journey circle last night I am still committed to sharing this wisdom at a later date....
But this morning I received the most heart bursting emailing from the gifted author and medicine woman - Lynette Allen to say she had chosen my opening prayer to be published in the book we are co authoring with a collective of globally based space holders.
I have been holding Sister Circles drawing on Lynette's poetry for years. So to have her bless mine was a gift that landed in my heart this morning like a butterfly.
Many of you know that I have been navigating some big life changes over the last year. The wisdom this life experience has gifted me is the embodied knowing that in the most dark phases women birth light!!
Just like birthing a baby, we move through contraction that lead to expansions.
Whether we are birthing a baby, a book, a business, a relationship – often, there is a part of the process, right before the birth, called a ‘transition’. The part where we go from active labor, to the most intense discomfort. The cervix dilates, there's is a spike in adrenaline, the stress hormone. We can feel overwhelmed, unsafe or out of control.
But, guess what? Transition is actually a good thing!
It means a (metaphoric) baby is coming.
When we can rest in the transition, trust in the transition – a time when the darkness seems so overwhelming we can be in the feminine process of creation.
It was on a dark scary day that I channeled the opening prayer for the book. I was allowing myself to be a beacon of light in my shadowy moment. Not just for me, but for all those who I love, including anyone who is reading this.
I hold the torch of trust through these uncomfortable times, knowing they are here to teach me, to help me expand in unimaginable ways. This unshakable trust allows me to keep moving through life with grace.
What do midwives do for a birthing woman?
Reassure her. Remind her that she’s got this. We say she is exactly where she needs to be. We tell her that this is the part just before she gets to hold her brand new (metaphoric) baby in her arms.
I am my own midwife and at the same time I have been held by the most incredible women and men, some of these are my own students - you know who you are!!!
I know there is more to be birthed. My whole body is letting me know. My mind hasn't got a clue, which is why I know its something thats coming from my own unique essence. I'll allow the feminine birthing process to unfold naturally and wholeheartedly trust in the process.
